Just finished this image which was done for a competition based on the theme, Flying Machines at Sketchtheatre.com. The rules are that you have to use traditional media only, no digital assistance. My idea was based on and inspired by the old crazy flying inventions of the late 19th century.
Welcome
“It is in the order to really see, to see ever deeper, ever more intensely, hence to be fully aware and alive, that I draw what the Chinese call ‘The Ten Thousand Things’ around me. Drawing is the discipline by which I constantly rediscover the world.
I have learned that what I have not drawn, I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing, I realize how extraordinary it is”.
(Frederick Franck, ‘The Zen of Seeing’).

53-57 Sketching on newspapers
There is something about sketching on a printed page that is really satisfying. I think it's because you are not starting with a nice white surface, it's less daunting and I strongly recommend giving it a go. A cheap paper source and subjects to boot, what more could you ask for? -I suppose you could read it as well!

43a- Watercolour
This is a scan of the original watercolour before I started to add black pen and coloured pencil and to be honest, I think I prefer this one. It was a good exercise working with 'real' media for a change and I'm hoping to do a lot more. It's weird not being able to press undo and I missed the ability to colour pick at the click of a mouse button.
