Welcome

“It is in the order to really see, to see ever deeper, ever more intensely, hence to be fully aware and alive, that I draw what the Chinese call ‘The Ten Thousand Things’ around me. Drawing is the discipline by which I constantly rediscover the world.

I have learned that what I have not drawn, I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing, I realize how extraordinary it is”.

(Frederick Franck, ‘The Zen of Seeing’).

129- Strange but true!

A stranger thing I've never seen whilst walking on the moors,
a sheep without his jumper on, but still with hairy drawers!
I wonder if we'll ever know or find out in the end,
is there reason in this madness, or just a new sheep trend?

128- Watercolour

This was probably a bit ambitious for my skill level and although it isn't altogether finished, I just needed to get it copied and posted because I've been working on it off and on for the last week and it's starting to drive me crazy!! It's actually a copy of one of John Pike's paintings from his book 'John Pike Paints Watercolours'.
The book is excellent and provides 13 demonstrations of the artist's process showing the painting as he progresses so you can follow along, which is what I have tried to do. This is demonstration no.2 and is called 'Woods- Late Winter'. I should warn the reader that whilst he shows the painting at different stages, this generally consists of only 3 or 4 illustrations although they are accompanied by a good write up describing paints used etc.

Sketched at Round Hill (I think) on the Sunderland to Whitehaven Cycle Route. I had intended to do more but the adverse weather put paid to that idea.
