Finally got round to completing this painting today. It's been a good exercise in persistence because at one point I was ready to scrap it altogether. It's mainly done with colored pencils although I did use some soft pastels this time as a sort of under-painting on the left side of his face. It looked a bit ropey for a while but like I say, I stuck with it and it turned out okay, not brilliant but okay.
I should say that as well as the Derwent pencils, I also used some Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth Polycolor pencils and some Prismacolor Col-Erase pencils which helped fill out the palette.
